Who we are

Snowstar Consulting was founded by Dawn Paul, MBA, with the goal of helping businesses to shine and achieve long-term success and sustainability. Snowstar Consulting is passionate about focusing not only on profit but also people and planet to create truly resilient organisations that operate for the benefit of all stakeholders – including the earth. Business sustainability requires organisations to adhere to the principles of sustainable development, which according to the World Council for Economic Development (WCED) is defined as ‘meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.’ Snowstar Consulting believes this principle is essential, as after all, we are all reliant on this planet for our survival.

Developing Authentic Leaders

Most leading companies now recognise the value of developing authentic leaders and Snowstar Consulting has been specialising in this area since 2004. Authentic leaders constantly develop and seek to understand themselves – heal themselves where necessary – thus improving the relationship with themselves and therefore others.  Becoming an authentic leader allows for the development and maintenance of strong core values, principles and confidence from which to effectively govern the organisation and create an excellent corporate governance framework and organisational culture.

Creating an excellent Corporate Governance framework to protect reputational capital, reduce organisational risk and create trust.

Corporate Governance utilises a set of principles that determines what a board of directors does. The core principles of corporate governance are:

Accountability – not only acting in the best interests of shareholders but also other affected stakeholders through activities such as Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and environmental policies.

Transparency – the extent to which an organisation’s activities are observable by outsiders.

Probity – ‘the quality of having strong moral principles, honesty and decency,’ – core requirements of an effective and authentic leader.

Focus – on the long-term sustainability of the organisation.

Snowstar Consulting are thought leaders in corporate governance and can assist organisations understand and assess various corporate governance risks including bribery and corruption, human rights issues and community and stakeholder engagement.  We can help our clients to develop and implement effective corporate governance strategies and frameworks and implement appropriate governance cultures, policies and procedures and incorporate these into broader risk management frameworks.

Developing an appropriate Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme

Snowstar Consulting can assist an organisation identify and develop both internal and external CSR programmes that adds value to the organisation itself as well as society. Snowstar Consulting recognise that CSR efforts are more likely to be maintained and developed if they are beneficial to both parties, rather than being viewed as a reduction of the bottom line. While this sounds like greenwashing it is not. Snowstar Consulting believes that a social initiative programme is more likely to be maintained if it creates organisational value. For example, Nespresso’s CSR programme supports and educates coffee bean farmers to achieve better crop yields using sustainable and environmental farming practices. The farmers benefit as they achieve higher prices for each yield and Nespresso benefits from improvements in the quality of their coffee, which is appreciated by their customers, thus creating brand loyalty.

Creating appropriate Environmental Management Systems (EMS)

Snowstar Consulting can assist organisations to create appropriate environmental management systems and if required, obtain the ISO14001 standard. Again, rather than being seen as a restriction and an outlay of resources, an appropriate EMS system can save an organisation money, foster teamwork and create significant competitive advantage.

Developing sound strategic plans to focus organisational efforts and achieve goals

Strategic planning should not be seen as yet another yearly task in which the resulting documents ends up in a dusty drawer never to be seen again. Snowstar Consulting can enable your organisation to seek clarity, establish what it seeks to achieve, decide on a strategic direction and create a working strategy document that acts not only a valuable form of guidance and aid in future decision making, but also as a tool that acts as both a focal point and a reference framework.

Dawn Paul, MBA, Nottingham Trent University

Dawn Paul - Snowstar ConsultingDawn has 15 years’ experience in the financial services industry including five years as a Senior Consultant for HSBC Actuaries and Consultants Limited specializing in corporate pensions and investment portfolio management. She is a former Member of the Society of Financial Advisers (MSFA) of the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII).

In 2005, Dawn developed a practice counseling hundreds of individuals in leadership development, helping them to achieve their own goals and foster the success of their organizations. Dawn is an Alumni Fellow of Nottingham Business School and is also a member of the MBA Monitoring Board at Nottingham Trent University. She is also recognised as an Associate Consultant of the British Assessment Bureau and can assist organisations to achieve International Standards ISO9001 and ISO14001.

Dawn is passionate about enabling both leaders and organizations to achieve their fullest potential in a way that respects and benefits all stakeholders, including the environment. She set up Snowstar Consulting to further this passion. She is a visionary, is highly creative, people orientated, inspires trust and challenges people find solutions ‘outside the box.’ She is well known for her friendly, supportive approach and good humour. Outside of work Dawn keeps fit with British Military Fitness training and Dragon Boat racing and enjoys nature, travelling and the visual arts.

Ulysses SmithCornell Law School

Ulysses Smith - Snowstar ConsultingUlysses is a former corporate lawyer who is passionate about good governance and international development and believes in its potential to create positive change in the world.

In 2016, Ulysses was ranked by Legal 500 US as a ‘highly recommended’ lawyer for Corporate Governance. Additionally, he has been recognised by the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) as one of ten worldwide ‘Pioneers’ for the UN’s Social Development Goal 16 – which focuses on governance, rule of law, peace, and security. He publishes widely on issues of governance and development. Ulysses is based in New York, USA. He is a thought leader in corporate governance and is known for his professionalism, warmth, and humility. Outside of work Ulysses enjoys spending time with his family and being in nature. He enjoys literature, – particularly poetry, and is a keen writer.
